Canções que referem outras canções #7: “Freddie's Alive And Well”, de The Spirit Of Atlanta, e “Freddie's Dead”, de Curtis Mayfield

Costumo, nesta série, pôr primeiro a canção que refere a outra e só depois a canção referida, mas hoje faço ao contrário.

Em 1972, Curtis Mayfield diz que Freddie morreu. Fat Freddie era uma personagem do filme Super Fly. “Freddie's Dead” faz parte da banda sonora desse filme, mas numa versão instrumental e só no álbum que se seguiu ao filme é que o tema é cantado. O triste obituário de Freddie é também um apelo a não se deixar agarrar às drogas.

No ano seguinte, porém, Tommy Stewart (que tinha obviamente em Mayfield um dos principais modelos para o seu Spirit of Atlanta) diz que, afinal, Freddie não morreu: passou por um inferno, mas não foi para o inferno: está bem vivo, deixou-se de drogas e até arranjou um emprego. Não deixa de ser curioso... Porque será que Tommy Stewart decidiu ressuscitar Freddie?
